Car stereos and dash cams, installed right.

I installed car electronics professionally at a big-box electronics store. Same clean, careful work, for less than the big-box price on every install.

Prices are for the installation. You buy the stereo or dash cam, plus any dash kit, wiring harness, hardwire kit or steering wheel control module your car needs to fit it properly. Text me the year, make and model and I'll tell you exactly what to get before you spend a dollar. If your car needs a steering wheel control or backup camera module, installing it adds $50 each. Prices are for drop-off installs; a mobile install at your home or work adds a $99 travel fee. Big-box prices are their published installation rates as of September 2026.

What you get

A cheaper install shouldn't look like one. You get the same finish a car shop would give you.

With a dash cam

  • Out of your line of sight. The camera sits up behind the mirror, and the wiring is kept as neat and tidy as your car allows.
  • Records without you thinking about it. It turns on with the car, so the one day you need footage, it's there.
  • Parking protection, if your camera has it. Keeps watching while you're parked. This usually takes a hardwire kit, a separate part.
  • Tested before you leave. Recording checked, and if your camera has a phone app, it's connected so you know how to pull footage before you ever need to.

With a car stereo

  • A factory look. The new unit sits flush in the dash with no gaps and no loose wires behind it.
  • Keep what you already have. Steering wheel controls and a factory backup camera can often carry over. If your car needs a separate module for either one, it's $50 each to install it.
  • Your phone, paired and working. Bluetooth calls, music, and CarPlay or Android Auto all tested with your phone before you drive away.
  • Every speaker checked. Sound from all four corners, and your radio stations saved.

Why people put in a dash cam

It costs less than most insurance deductibles, and it pays for itself the first time something happens.

Proof of who hit who

A fender bender turns into your word against theirs fast. Footage ends the argument with your insurance company in minutes.

Hit-and-runs and parking lots

Come back to a dented door and see exactly who did it, with a plate number, instead of paying for it yourself.

A rear camera covers the rest

Most accidents that aren't your fault come from behind. A rear camera catches the car that didn't stop.

How it works

01

Text me your car

Year, make and model, and what you want installed. If you haven't bought anything yet, that's fine too.

02

Get the parts list and a time

I tell you exactly what your car needs and what it costs, and we pick a day that works for you.

03

Drop it off, drive away with it done

Bring the car to me, or book a mobile install for a $99 travel fee. It's tested with you in the car, and you pay when it's working.

Want something else installed?

Speakers, an amp, a backup camera, a satellite radio tuner, something you already bought online? Tell me what it is and what you drive.

I'll let you know if it's something I can do and what it would cost. A quick yes or no, usually the same day.

Why me

The same install you'd get at the big-box store, from someone who did it there, for less than they charge.

Before Lake Forest Digital, I installed car stereos and dash cams professionally. I know how to get into a dashboard without leaving a mark on it, and what a finished install is supposed to look like.

You don't wait on an appointment weeks out. You deal with the person doing the work, I do it right, and if something isn't working a week later, you text the same number you texted the first time.

I also handle computers, WiFi, home offices and more around Lake County. Take a look at the rest of what I do.

Common questions

Does the price include the stereo or the dash cam?

No. The price is the installation. You buy the stereo or dash cam, and anything your car needs to fit it properly is separate too, like a dash kit, wiring harness, hardwire kit or steering wheel control module. Text me the year, make and model and I'll tell you exactly which parts your car needs before the day.

Where do you do the install?

You drop the car off with me, and I'll send you the address when we book. If you'd rather I come to you, a mobile install at your home or work is available for a $99 travel fee on top of the install price, to cover the drive and hauling the tools.

How long does it take?

A front dash cam or a standard stereo is about an hour. A dash cam with a rear camera, or a touchscreen, is usually two to three hours. It depends on the car, and I'll give you a time when I quote it.

Will I keep my steering wheel controls and backup camera?

Often, yes, but it depends on the car and the stereo. Some cars need a separate module to keep the steering wheel controls or the factory backup camera. When yours does, installing it is $50 for the steering wheel controls and $50 for the backup camera, plus the module itself. I'll check your car before you buy anything, so you know up front what carries over and what it costs.

Will the dash cam drain my battery?

Not in normal use. It turns on and off with the car. If your camera supports parking mode and you want it recording while you're parked, that usually needs a hardwire kit that shuts the camera off before the battery gets low.

Can you install something that isn't on this page?

Possibly. Send me what you have in mind with the form above, along with the year, make and model, and I'll tell you straight whether it's something I take on.

Text me the year, make and model

I'll send back the parts your car needs, the price, and a day that works. It takes a minute.
